Welcome to Running Deer's Therapeutic Intervention Services for your child and your family.

Our Therapeutic Intervention Services

Running Deer’s Therapeutic Family Services provide a holistic intervention designed to support the emotional wellbeing and personal development of children, young people, and their families.

Our approach combines counselling, family work, and parent–child support within a nurturing, relational environment. We help individuals and families build confidence, strengthen communication, and develop healthier ways of relating to one another.

Alongside this, our services offer a safe and supportive space for young people - and their parents or carers - to explore, process, and make sense of challenging or traumatic experiences. By working therapeutically with the whole family system, we promote resilience, emotional growth, and positive, sustainable change.

Individual counselling for young people

This is short term therapy, focused on undertaking a particular piece of work with a young person. Bringing a bespoke integration of therapeutic skills employed pluralistically; engaging with young people in a collaborative and individually formulated manner working towards agreed goals.
This work will consider the whole family system using family therapy tools, looking at the relational patterns in the family and working with them to identify changes they would like to make.

Parent and Child Support

Our trauma-informed Parent-Child Support sessions help parents develop skills through effective relational
interventions that aim to support both parent and child mental health.

Harmful or problematic sexual behaviours early intervention

This is a strengths-based intervention for children and young people who have exhibited Problematic or
Harmful sexual behaviours or where there are concerns around these behaviours. Working within a neuroaffirming, trauma-informed and non-judgemental framework to support children and young people away from these behaviours, creating better outcomes for the individual themselves as well as for those who may otherwise be adversely impacted.

Drawing and Talking

Drawing and Talking is a therapeutic intervention for children and young people. It is designed as a shortterm,
time limited, pro-active intervention intended to complement, rather than replace, the work of specialist mental health services.

 Sand Play

In sand-play, children and young people create scenes of miniature worlds. using figures, sand and water to communicate their inner world, namely their thoughts, feelings, memories, worries, hopes, fantasies, perceptions, inner voices. Many children and young people are totally unused to talking about their inner world, so being offered sand-play can be a lifeline and far more effective than everyday words.
We use movement- and sensory-based games, exercises, and resources to support young people from the body upward, helping them understand and manage their sensory and emotional experiences.
